My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chance is a really good boy with a stubborn streak a mile long. He is slow to warm up to people at first, especially men, but within a few hours is their best friend. He isn’t really social with our other two dogs, but exists with them. He does prefer our female to our male and loves a little female across the street.

He is a very mild dog, only barking or whining when he does not want to be in his crate. He walks nicely on a leash, plodding along and sniffing, and paying attention to EVERY sound and movement around him.

He does sleep in the crate at night with no problem. He only stirs in the morning when our two are starting to get active (around 6:30 AM EVERY morning). He sleeps in the room, right next to the bed, so he does not feel alone.

He is really happy to see foster Mom or Dad when they’ve been gone for an hour or two, getting really active and always bringing a gift to us. He was first scared of the TV, but now tolerates it, especially when tuned to the Animal Planet channel.

Overall low energy, no real barking, and loves to lie around when nothing is going on. He does get excited when we are about to take him for a walk, feeding off the energy of the other two crazy beasts in the house.

We feed him separately from the other two, since they are really aggressive and eat fast. I stay next to him when he eats and pet him. He eats slowly and finishes whatever is in the bowl.

He has only had one accident in the house: we are helping schedule him along by taking him for short walks two or three times daily. He will always go potty on the walks and has gone a few times in the back yard. He is starting to get it. His mindset seems to be that walks are for potty, outside is for exploring, but don’t go potty in the house. He makes it through the night without any problem, but he is in his crate.

He loves attention and has no problem stepping over or on our other two to get it, much to their chagrin.

Chance is a great dog for an older couple or someone who wants a lower energy beagle and a huggy bear to watch TV with at night. When left to his own devices, he will sneak onto the bed, so I imaging if you want a dog in your bed at night, you won’t have to ask him twice.
