My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi folks, I'm Roxie! I love my foster mom and my foster dad so much, so when I need a little cuddling (which is pretty much all the time) I jump up on the couch with them and curl right up alongside them. If they're busy, I just follow them around and lie down close to them. I love people and greet anyone who comes to the door with a happy tail and a Sheltie smile, just waiting to be petted. I may have only 3 legs, but that doesn't stop me! I can go up and down stairs no problem, hop up on the couch, and I love to run in my foster's backyard.

AGE: 9 years

SIZE: 22 lbs. She should be 20 lbs. so currently she is on a diet.

TEMPERAMENT: Roxie loves people and follows both her foster mom & dad around the house. She is snuggly and cuddly. She loves to sit on our laps or next to us; she always wants to be with us. She is very sweet and affectionate with every person she meets, and will sit nicely waiting to be petted.

FENCE: A secure wood, chain link or vinyl fence that completely surrounds the yard, with direct access from the house, and with secure gates is strongly preferred. Roxie loves to run around in the yard. We may consider a home without a fence if the adopter will commit to always having Roxie on a leash when outside, for her lifetime (as required per our adoption contract for all our dogs when not in a securely fenced area). All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).

DOGS: Roxie would love a home where she can get lots of attention, without the competition from other dogs. We may consider a home with an easy-going dog her size or smaller, if the adopter is savvy about feeding dogs in their crates, not leaving bones out, etc. She was injured by another dog in her previous home, so she is cautious and wary with bigger dogs, and dogs of any size that she does not know, but she does fine with the dogs in her foster home.

CATS: Unknown. There are no cats in her foster home. The previous owner reported that she chases and herds cats.

KIDS: Roxie does fine with the visiting grandchildren (age 10+), but does better with some children than others. An adult home would be best for Roxie.

CRATE TRAINED: Roxie is crate trained, and can also handle free run of the house.

HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes, and Roxie barks when she needs to go out.

OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Roxie responds to stay, sit, wait (prior to eating), and okay (release word to eat).

LEASH MANNERS: Roxie does fine on a harness on short walks.

CAR RIDES: Roxie rides well in a crate in the car. She lost her leg when she jumped from a moving vehicle, so she travels in a crate for her safety.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Roxie has a wonderful activity level without being over-active. She does not act like a 9-year-old dog!

BARKING: Roxie barks when necessary, to tell you she needs to go out and to tell you she wants to come in.

HEALTH ISSUES: Roxie's rear leg was amputated in 2009. No other known health issues. She recently had a dental.

I would love to be your companion and give you all the love I have to give (which is a lot!). I would be really happy if I was your only dog, but I can share if I have to. I'm so happy with my foster folks, but I would love to have my forever home. I am such a happy girl. Please give me a home and you will feel so much love!!!

Please read our adoption guidelines at http://www.mnsheltierescue.org/howtoadopt prior to calling or emailing us, as this may answer your questions.

***The Sheltie's bio explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie's needs, and indicates if a fence is required, and whether the Sheltie can be placed with children, dogs or cats. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care.***

Roxie's adoption fee is $150.00, and she is spayed, current on vaccinations, had a dental, was tested for heartworm and tickborne diseases, is on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), is microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).
