Ami's Info...
| Species: | Chinchilla | Color: | Silver Or Gray | Age: | Young |
| Sex: | Male | Hair: | Unknown |
These 2 boys are very beautiful, and very well behaved! Ami (the grey chin) is the son of Amoroso. Ami is very funny when he comes out to run around, and was the first chinchilla to locate the toy and treat box, open it, and help himself! He prefers the company of other chins to people sometimes, but he is a good boy and you will love him. Amoroso on the other hand is a ball of energy!! If you are nearby, he wants to be there too. He is easy to hold, easy to catch off the floor, and is a friendly and affectionate boy towards everyone he meets. He is definitely a "people person" more than a chinchilla person!
Rescue Group Info...
Chin Friends Chinchilla Rescue was started because the exotic pet trade in our country is busier than ever before. With the availability of these animals, many people impulse-purchase them, not realizing the commitment they are making. It gets overwhelming for some, and others didn’t quite realize the financial commitment or time commitment. Some people just lose interest, or their lifestyle changes and the pet does not fit in anymore. There are not many resources for people with exotic pets, and we aim to provide that for chinchilla owners.
We also realize great pet owners are made- not born that way, and each one of our adopters will have access to help, suggestions and any support they may need in the future.
All of our chinchillas are in private foster home, so we do not allow the general public to see the chinchillas without first filling out the adoption application. Once an adopter is approved, we will be happy to set up a private meeting so you can meet any chinchillas you are interested in adopting.
Unlike some rescues, we do not require a home inspection. We do require that you are prepared to agree to some basic expectations, including providing a proper cage, veterinary care from an exotic specialist, air conditioning, and a clean, quiet, smoke-free environment.
There is an adoption application available for download on our web site, and there is a $100 adoption fee per chinchilla. After filling out an application, one of our volunteers will speak with you for more information.
Chin Friends Chinchilla Rescue is located in Suffolk
County, on Long Island, NY, and will serve most of
Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn, Bronx
and Queens. We have also had adopters from new Jersey and Connecticut, and are open to other areas as well.
