Gentle Ben's Story...
Gentle Ben is back to This is the Dog! because his family is separating. He was recently groomed and needed to be shaved down as you can see in one of the photos. He is about 3 -5 years old now. He is gorgeous. We are looking for a special home for Gentle Ben. He would do well as the only dog in a home but he does get along with other dogs. His family must be able to handle his strength and determination. His past family had three other dogs and they all got along thanks to an alpha human in the family. He responds well to commands and has been evaluated by a trainer. Ben is easy going but can be assertive at times with other dogs during treat time. Please give Ben some consideration if you are familiar with this size dog and the breed. He is amazing!! Neutered and current with vaccines.

Please email adopt@thisisthedog.com for an application. Donations are critical to our existence -- they help us to continue rescuing these animals and to make sure that they are healthy and properly socialized before being adopted.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Gentle Ben, a Homestead Newfoundland/Akita dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Newfoundland/Akita for sale in Homestead, or seeking a Newfoundland/Akita dog from a breeder in Homestead.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Homestead already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Homestead breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Newfoundland/Akita breeders who help with Newfoundland/Akita rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Homestead paves the way for another one to be saved.
