Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Higgs/Higgens was at the shelter in Kentucky a long time. There is always a surplus of hounds in the shelters down south. Higgens weighs 35 pounds and is 1-1/2 years old. Contrary to popular belief my experience with hounds is they are lazy and affectionate. His favorite place is curled up on the "dog" couch cuddled with my husband. At first Higgens was very overwhelmed with new experiences. I believe this was from lack of exposure and confidence that people were safe and were going to treat him well.
It has been fun to watch his growth and confidence increase. With some more patience and time to gain confidence you will end up with a very sweet affectionate dog. He is house broken. I don't crate him because he doesn't have any behaviors that require it. Once he is settled in I will work on walking on a leash. He doesn't pull as much as he is lead by his nose. He barks but not a lot and is starting to dance and prance when he sees someone from the family. He lives with a cat and other dogs and does well with both.
