My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

KC is confident, trusting, very food motivated and super fast! She would love to find a home where she can go to training classes to learn new skills, and then put those skills to use through fun canine activities like Rally or agility, or someone who enjoys training and who will keep her mind and body active. KC is also a very sweet and affectionate girl, who will want to snuggle with you.

AGE: 3 years

SIZE: ~20 lbs. and 18" tall

TEMPERAMENT: KC is an outgoing, happy girl! She loves her foster parents and needs just a short time to warm up to new people, and is not afraid. She likes men & women equally, and loves to play but is not hyper. She’s happy to snuggle on the couch, too.

FENCE: A secure wood, chain link or vinyl fence that completely surrounds the yard, with direct access from the house, and with secure gates is required. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).

DOGS: KC needs to be introduced slowly to new dogs. She doesn’t like dogs who are pushy when they first meet or she may snap at them to let them know to back off. She would do well either as someone’s one & only, or with a submissive male dog. After just a day here, she was playing/chasing her foster brothers (Poodles). She doesn’t want other dogs around her when she eats so she is fed separately, and she gets chews/bones when in her crate or in a separate room as she will guard them to make sure the other dogs don’t take them.

CATS: Unknown. There are no cats in her foster home. She did fine with a very dog-savvy cat that she met while in rescue, but she might chase a cat that runs.

KIDS: A home without children or with older children is best. Because she is such a food hound, she would grab food from little hands.

CRATE TRAINED: KC can be trusted in the house while you are away, as long as there is no food on the counter (she countersurfs) and the garbage is kept in a cupboard or out of reach. She doesn’t love the crate, but she sometimes will sleep in it on her own.

HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes, no accidents.

OBEDIENCE TRAINING: KC responds to sit and comes running when you call her name. She now waits politely to eat her food until you tell her it is OK. KC is in need of a home that will take her to formal training classes and maybe continue on to do dog activities such as Rally, agility, disc, etc., or who can keep her mind and body active in other ways. She is food motivated and learns new skills very quickly. She would love to have a job to keep her busy.

LEASH MANNERS: KC walks well on the leash.

CAR RIDES: KC is happy to get in the car and does fine on short car rides in her crate. She got car sick on a longer ride, but likely that will improve as she experiences more fun outings.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate. KC has her bursts of energy and races around, and then comes in the house and calms right down. She like to chase her ball and carry toys around.

BARKING: Average for a Sheltie.

HEALTH ISSUES: No known health issues.

EXPERIENCED HOME: Yes, KC is not the right dog for a novice dog/Sheltie owner. She needs someone who can channel a sassy girl in the right direction!

KC is really a fun dog, she is just so happy, silly and willing to please you. She is a very athletic girl and would love to have a person who will keep her busy, teach her new things and give her lots of love. If you are looking for a training partner, and have an extra squeaky toy and an open spot on your couch, KC might be the girl you are looking for!

Please read our adoption guidelines at http://www.mnsheltierescue.org/howtoadopt prior to calling or emailing us, as this may answer your questions.

KC's adoption fee is $350.00, and she is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), is microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).
