My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you have never heard of a Belgian Shepherd Groenendael, then check them out in Google Images. Bear is definitely a decent of this breed. He is about 4 years old and weighs approximately 70-80 pounds. He has long, beautiful, shiny black fur. Like most shepherds, he has that long snout yet his ears don't stand up. They are slightly bent which makes his appearance much softer. He is always happy to great you when you come home. He is right there waiting and you can see him bouncing from the inside of the house through the window. Bear has been to the dog park and loves to snoop around and take in the fresh air. He will run alongside the path and duck into the woods. He only does this for a short period of time because he likes being near his owner. He knows I travel with water and will sit down next to me as I pour it into a bowl so all the dogs can keep hydrated. He has traveled with me and my 4 other dogs in my SUV and rides wonderfully in the car. He is just happy to be close to me. If Bear had his druthers, he would curl up on my lap every single night when I watch TV. He thinks he's a little kitten. I have pulled him up on my lap and he says there taking in all the attention while looking up at me adoringly. If he's not on my lap, he will sit in front of me and nudge my arm. When I've had enough, I will put my palm up in the air and say, "No. go lay down" and he will do so. He's a smart boy. Although Bear is great with dogs at the dog park, I am recommending that he is in a house with all females or submissive males. He demonstrates 'alpha-ism'. On that note, it's important that you are the alpha role model he needs and requires. I am a female and it's known in my house that I am the alpha and my pack views me that way. It's important that Bear understands that. Shepherds have natural instincts and they look to us for direction. Bear will not go to a home with small kids. Although he has seen children at the dog park, I would prefer he go into a home with children older than 8-10 years old. He is a big dog and can easily knock a small child over..
