Pip's Story...
Greetings! My name is Pip! I am a 6 year old puppy mill survivor. I was rescued on 9/23/11, but until recently I would not let people really touch me. I got to be honest, I really don't trust humans very much, I think that humans are kind of scary! I am learning to trust slowly, but surely. I will need an experienced adopter who has dealt with puppy mill survivors in the past, I am what some would call a project dog! My foster mom has helped me learn how to walk on a leash, and I have really learned to enjoy getting out and about. And I have learned to really enjoy car rides! I took a shy dog class and would really like to go to more classes that would help me socialize with humans. I do need other dogs around that are my size to pull confidence from, I would not enjoy being an only dog. I do well with cats and older children that would not chase me around. I have been neutered, I am up to date to date on vaccinations, micro-chipped, heart worm negative, and have had a dental cleaning. My adoption fee is $225.

About Our Rescue Group...
A Soft Place To Land, Inc. was founded in 2010 by two dog lovers and best friends. We are a small foster home-based rescue, so we do not have a shelter facility. As former breeders of English Springer Spaniels, we realized there were too many dogs out there without homes - why breed more dogs?! So we decided to rescue retired breeders so they would not be euthanized. Our hope is that eventually, through awareness of the plight of puppy mill dogs, more people will choose to adopt a pet instead of purchasing a pet through a pet store - making puppy mills a thing of the past!

We have a "donate" button on our web site. We also have a wish list on Amazon.com. We always need cleaning items, old bedding, old towels, dog beds, gas cards, and just about anything else you can think of!

Our Adoption Process...
www.softplacetoland.org.
Step 1: Fill out an adoption application.
Step 2: Someone from A Soft Place To Land will contact you to set up a home visit and interview. After the home visit applicants and the rescue can take up to 24 hours to decide if the dog is the right fit.
Step 3: When approved, sign adoption contract and pay adoption fees.

Adoption fees are roughly as follows:
Dogs under 6 months of age - $350
Dog from 6 months to 8 years - $225 - $300
Dogs over 8 years - $100 - $225

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
We prefer to adopt in the state of Colorado as our resources are limited and generally we are not able to perform home visits further away than 6 hours. The dogs we rescue are primarily retired commercial breeding dogs and we like to make sure the dog will be comfortable in your home before we complete the adoption. If the adopter lives further away, it is difficult to know how the dogs will react to the new environment. If there is a problem, we require that the dog be returned to the rescue to re-home and the distance to transport could be an issue. However, if you are willing to come meet the dog and are willing to send us pictures of your home, we will consider it. (In state applicants would be considered first if multiple applications were received on the same dog.)

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Pip, a Ft. Collins Papillon/Pomeranian dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Papillon/Pomeranian for sale in Ft. Collins, or seeking a Papillon/Pomeranian dog from a breeder in Ft. Collins.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Ft. Collins already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Ft. Collins breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Papillon/Pomeranian breeders who help with Papillon/Pomeranian rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Ft. Collins paves the way for another one to be saved.
