Ricky's Story...
This adorable 8 year old senegal will you tell his name is Ricky, laugh at your jokes, cough with you when you're sick and tell you to "C'mere baby". He also likes to make the sounds of running water and of course, beep like the microwave. Ricky is hand tame, loves attention, shows no fear of anything new and seems to like everyone he meets. Ricky can be vocal towards early evening, but that seems to be his signal for bedtime. He came to us on a colored pelleted diet, but is easily transitioning to a high quality pellet without color or sugar. As you can see by his beak, Ricky loves his chop and these pictures were taken right after dinner. He is in good feather with some minor over preening and a little on the plump side This should be corrected quickly with a better diet and enrichment toys. He enjoys his foraging dish and is rediscovering his love to destroy smaller wood toys. If you are looking for a lovable smaller parrot to join your flock, please consider giving Ricky a wonderful home.

About Our Rescue Group...
Florida Parrot Rescue is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of companion parrots. We strive to educate parrot owners on proper handling and care of parrots. Should someone be unable to keep their bird(s) for ANY reason, we want them to know there is a place to turn, and that they are not alone. It is our goal to provide a safe haven for birds that cannot stay with their owners or birds in need, and then to find those birds permanent forever homes with loving and responsible families.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Ricky, a Tampa Poicephalus (including Senegal and Meyer's) was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Poicephalus (including Senegal and Meyer's) for sale in Tampa, or seeking a Poicephalus (including Senegal and Meyer's) from a breeder in Tampa.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Tampa already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Tampa breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Poicephalus (including Senegal and Meyer's) breeders who help with Poicephalus (including Senegal and Meyer's) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Tampa paves the way for another one to be saved.
