Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.
PLEASE CLICK ON "READ MORE ABOUT THIS PET" FOR COMPLETE INFORMATION!
If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.
Hutch is a beautiful purebred chocolate lab who lost his home due to financial reasons. He comes with his AKC papers and was supposed to be bred as a hunting dog. He does like to retrieve but has not had hunting training or experience. Hutch is 2.5 years and 85 pounds and he loves to play with other big dogs once he is properly introduced. He has not been around cats. Hutch is currently living with a 2 year old and a 4 year old child and he loves licking them. Because of his size, of course supervision is required with young children! Hutch is house trained on a schedule and he does need a fenced yard. It's possible an electric fence would work for him. He listens very well to his foster dad and less well to foster mom so he needs an experienced dog owner. He also likes to go into the woods to do his business. His other naughty behavior is doing some counter surfing--so he needs continued training in this regard. Hutch is a good natured, happy dog who will thrive with plenty of exercise and continued training. His adoption fee is $350 as he came to rescue with no veterinary history. He is now neutered, heartworm negative and on prevention, was positive for Lyme disease and is on medication for it (which is almost finished), up to date on shots, worming, flea/tick prevention and he has a HomeAgain microchip.
To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. These criteria are not negotiable. If you do not meet these criteria, please choose another dog that will work out better for your family.
• Homeowners: Required
• Status of adopter: Adult 25+
• Previous dog owning experience: Required
