Here is what her foster family had to say about Gabbie:
Gabbie is a wonderful, happy little girl. She is extremely calm and loves to snuggle. She has great manners, and will wait to be invited onto the furniture, and will sometimes ask by giving a little whine. She loves to be involved in all aspects of life and is always excited to try new things. She is an amazing traveller and would make an excellent camping/cottage dog. She loves playing tug of war, but does not like playing fetch, or even with balls in general. Her favourite toys are the plush squeaky ones, and she will go crazy if you give her one. One unique thing about her is that she likes to play while lying on her back. She uses her two front paws to hold whatever toy she is playing with, and uses her mouth to actually play with it. Overall, she is an excellent dog that many people are so impressed by. She even managed to make one non-dog lover, her biggest fan. She will steal your heart as soon as you meet her!
Gabbie is such a friendly and happy dog. She loves being around children. It doesn't take her very long to warm up if someone is being friendly to her. She is always in the mood for some petting, or even to play! So far, we have not seen any shyness, she is always excited to meet new people! She is currently in a home with no pets, but on walks when we encounter outdoor cats or other dogs on a walk, no matter how big or small the animal is, she often barks, and growls and tries to chase after them. It is for this reason that we would suggest Gabbie be the only pet in the home where someone can work with her socialization skills.
Gabbie’s general energy level is low/moderate but she is always ready for a good run. She knows when to be calm and collected, and when it’s time to be active and have fun. We have gotten many compliments on her calm attitude. Gabbie does shed, however it is minimal. Gabbie is generally quiet in the home, unless she hears someone that she can’t see, or a “bump in the night” and then she’ll let you know by a quiet whine or sometimes a little bark.
Gabbie knows how to sit, and she is currently working on lay down. She is very good at “staying” when it comes to meal time. You can pour her food, and she will wait until you let her know it is okay to come eat. Gabbie is completely house trained. She will often sit at the door to let you know – even when travelling she quickly learned what door to go to, to let us know but sometimes she whines and that is her signal it’s time for her to go out. She is crate trained, and is crated in our home for a maximum of four hours however we do know that she would be okay for much longer if need be.
We have also discovered she likes car rides very much! Gabbie is an angel in the car, and loves being in the car. She is fully leashed trained, however it is unadvisable for children to be her primary walker as she WILL pull if she sees another animal, especially cats, dogs and squirrels – and even leaves if she thinks it’s a squirrel. She has amazing house manners. She doesn't take things out of the garbage, chew on things (besides her toys), or steal food.
Gabbie would be best suited for a family/couple with no other pets. She should not be placed as a child’s pet, because they would struggle walking her. She needs someone who will continue to work on her progress in getting her socialized and be patient, and understanding about it. She would do best in a home with a backyard and a daily walk. She needs a loving home with people who will make the commitment to keep her happy, and in return she will be the best dog you could ever ask for.
