My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The best (and preferred) method of contact for quick response is by way of e-mail (adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com). Please read dog’s entire bio before contacting rescue.

SEE VIDEO ALSO ON THIS PAGE! (Please note the video is an older video when she was first rescued and before her coat grew back out – she had been shaved down due to matting.)

Zelda is a one-and-a-half-year-old female Shih Tzu mix who was rescued from the Devore Animal Shelter. She weighs 10.2 pounds. Her coat is silky and soft, predominantly cream-colored, with gray on her ears and apricot color throughout her torso. She is quite pretty! She also has beautiful soulful eyes – one of her best features!

Zelda is sweet and loving. She is shy and submissive with people at first but has proved to be quite adaptable once she has had a bit of time to adjust to a new setting. When she first meets you, she is more of the shy type in lieu of the bouncing right in your lap type, but once she knows that you are okay, she will beg for pets, love, and treats! Zelda loves to cuddle on the couch with her people or to be picked up and carried. She also likes playing and wrestling with the other dogs at the rescue, and often looks to them to guide her steps. From what we have seen, she seems happiest when there is another canine around to be her friend, especially in the initial stages, however, she develops loyalty and contentment with her people too.

Zelda likes to go for walks around the neighborhood and to explore the back yard. You can often see her outside in the shade of a tree, chewing on a rawhide. Zelda is potty trained, however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment. Her best potty arrangement seems to be a doggie door with free access to a yard, or, a door that is left open with free access to the yard. Zelda is crate-trained; sleeps in her crate at night. Sometimes, she likes to hang out in her crate throughout the day like it is her little den.

Zelda’s best fit would be a home with another dog who can be her pal. She is generally a calm dog who can also play with the other dog in the home. She is a nice balance of calm and playful. She has not been tested with cats or young children, but she has a sweet and gentle demeanor which is conducive to adjusting to new situations, as long as the household leans to quieter over louder.

Zelda is spayed, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Zelda, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue until you have first submitted an interest via e-mail. Please visit my website at: http://www.angelsheartdogrescue.com and go to the Adoption Tab to read about the adoption process; thank you!
