My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

PLEASE CLICK ON "READ MORE ABOUT THIS PET" FOR COMPLETE INFORMATION!

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Maxwell is a 12 pound snuggle bug. He was found locally as a stray dog and never reclaimed. We think he is a pekingese pomeranian mix and he has a medium length silky coat which doesn't shed much. Maxwell is 9-12 months old and he gets along very well with the resident dogs and sleeps on the foot of his foster parent's bed. Max thinks that belly rubs are a good thing and following foster mom around is nice exercise. He likes to play outside too when the weather is nice. His coat is very soft and silky and will be easy to maintain with a brush and the occasional trim. Maxwell will be a good little watch dog, but doesn't over do it. He enjoys curling up on the sofa to help foster mom read or watch TV. Maxwell is truly a very loveable little companion with big dark brown eyes that look at you so lovingly. He will do best with school aged kids but hasn't been checked out with cats. Max is young and should have someone home part of the time. He would be content as an only dog if his human was home at least half the time. Maxwell walks well on a leash, is house trained, and is ready to make some family very happy! He is with a 501c3 rescue and came with no vet history. His $300 adoption fee is to cover his neuter, heartworm test and pill, shots, worming, professional grooming and HomeAgain microchip.

To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. These criteria are not negotiable. If you do not meet these criteria, please choose another dog that will work out better for your family.

• Homeowners: Strongly preferred, townhome may be okay

• Status of adopter: Adult 25+

• Previous dog owning experience: Preferred but not required

• Age of children: gentle kids 6+

• Another dog in the home: Not required if humans are home alot

• Cat(s) in the home: Not cat tested

• Fenced yard: Strongly preferred as he knows how to run away; otherwise he must be leashed

• Time alone on work days: He would do best with someone home half the time or more
