My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 11/2/12: Hi there, my name is Poppy and what a difference a week makes! Last Monday I was hit by a car, and this week I am running back and forth from one side of the yard to the other chatting with the neighbor dogs through the fence. I feel so much better! I take walks every day and fm can’t hardly keep up with me. I am sleeping inside in my own soft bed. My coat is so soft and silky because I get a bath every week now instead of sleeping outside covered in fleas and stickers. I run and play with my foster sisters, and even my foster brother Toby is starting to warm up to me. My foster parents think I am so smart because I figured out how to use the doggy door all by myself, and I do all my business outside (people seem to think that is a really big deal!) Next Friday I am getting neutered and getting two teeth pulled so that my mouth won’t be so crowded. After that I will be ready for my forever home. I haven’t had a lot of love and attention in my short life, so I love to sit by my fm and fd whenever I can and give them lots of kisses. So if you want a happy, healthy, sweet boy like me please fill out the adoption application! I can’t wait!

Initial bio 10/26/12: Our latest rescue, Poppy was hit by a car on 10-22-2012. He was surrendered at the Fort Worth Animal control; he was covered in feces that was matted in his fur, he was flea infested, and had terrible worms. It was also determined that he must have been kept outside as he was also covered in stickers. We got the call that they thought he had a fractured pelvis, and had to be rescued that day. The vet had to bath him and trim the feces and stickers off before they could even start to determine what internal injuries he had from being hit by the car. He did x-rays and determined that he had a punctured lung, broken ribs, and multiple contusions. Luckily the lung had self- sealed, so he spent the day yesterday being observed for further problems.

It is really a terrible reality that being hit by the car was probably the best thing that could of happened because now United Yorkie Rescue will give him the care he deserves. He is going to be okay. He will need rest, antibiotics, and pain meds for approximately 2 weeks.

Poppy here, and just wanted you to know that a lot has happened to me in the last week. I am in quite a bit of pain still, but overall am doing so good. I have my own bed next to foster mom and foster dad’s bed. I get a treat every time I take my medicine like a good boy. I don’t have to stay outside anymore, and I get to snuggle on the couch in the evening with my two foster sisters and my foster brother who is also a rescue named Toby. Toby doesn’t like me much (I think he is a little jealous of all the attention I am getting). But he will come around as my fm says who could not love me I am so sweet and so smart. I am learning that you are supposed to potty outside, and that is fine with me. I go every time they take me out. I am only 2 years old and weigh 10 pounds. I will need to stay with my foster family for several weeks as I will need to get over my injuries, get a couple of teeth extracted, and be neutered before I can go to my forever home.
