Our Adoption Process...
The Adoption Process

The Tuscarawas County Humane Society takes great care in placing the animals at our shelter into safe, comfortable and loving homes. Our simple three-step adoption process helps us determine the compatibility and safety of our adoptable animals and their new families.

Submit an online application. Be sure to contact the shelter to verify the approval of your application by calling 330-343-6060 or stopping at our facility located at 6895 Dover Zoar Rd, Dover Ohio 44622.

We have new animals arriving daily with no prior health history and, although we do not have a veterinarian on staff, we do our best to ensure that the pets we adopt are healthy.
Make arrangements to pick up your new pet from the shelter following the adoption approval.
We encourage making an appointment with your veterinarian for your new pet. If a condition should develop which requires veterinarian intervention, you need to discuss with your vet the options, possible fees involved, if he/she has a payment plan, etc. ALL ADOPTED puppies or kittens MUST BE SPAYED or NEUTERED at an appropriate age!
Adoption Fees

Dogs: $165
Dogs over the age of 7: $99

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bubbles, a Dover Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Dover, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Dover.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Dover already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Dover breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Dover paves the way for another one to be saved.
