ADOPTED 12-16-2012

Olive truthfully has a unique personality. She can be a clown when she is playing and she can be real goofy at times. After all she has been through, it is amazing that she trusts without question; she is loyal, courageous and protective. This combination of traits combined with intelligence and a very expressive face result in a one of a kind type of dog—that is our Olive.

Olive’s pictures don’t come close to show just what a beautiful girl she is. As dog lovers and adopters, we just can’t ever understand why people do the things they do. Olives rescue story is outrageous, how could someone leave this sweet girl behind during an awful rain & tornadoes last fall? She was rescued by our southern angels and was soon adopted, but recently came back to rescue after the other dog in her new home attacked her. Olive is not a fighter and therefore she ended up at the vet where she got several stitches. She has now been nurtured back to her old self and she is ready for her new home today.

WE HAVE A VIDEO OF OLIVE SO YOU CAN SEE HOW SWEET SHE IS: VIDEO

When you watch her video, you can see that Olive is a sweetheart with wonderful manners - she loves people of all ages and she gets along with other animals. Olive is also an avid game player and loves games of hide and seek, fetch and Frisbee. She is in great health, up-to-date on her shots and spayed. She is not a barking dog however, when she does, you know she is serious about protecting her space, family or property.

ABOUT THE BREED: People that have lived with Boxers indicate there is really no other dog like them. The Boxer is incredibly affectionate to their family. Another key quality of the Boxer temperament and personality is that they are a breed that tends to bond with several people; however they can typically have one person that they bond the most with. This bonding process can occur throughout their lives with the strongest bonds typically with the primary caregiver and the person the dog sees as the alpha leader in the family. This is not a person that is aggressive or harsh with the dog, but rather a person that is consistent, firm, positive and loving towards the dog.

Of course the energy level of the Boxer is definitely a part of their personality and behavioral traits. They are a dog that is capable of sitting or lying quietly at your feet, or even better on the couch beside you, then immediately springing into action for a jog, run or a play activity.

Apartment and small space living can work for the Boxer, as long as exercise requirements are met. Most Boxers will be moderately active indoors and tend to follow people around the house and play and interact on an ongoing basis. This is not enough daily exercise for the breed and they will require at least two longer fairly brisk walks, jogs or some time to run in a secured off-leash area every day, regardless of the weather.

Boxers have a great personality for matching with children; however the adults in the family need to train the Boxer and the kids how to properly interact. The Boxer has to learn to be gentle with children and to not jump up on them, or anyone else, especially in greeting. Teaching the kids and dog to play games such as fetch or even soccer together is a great way to allow the dog and children to interact without any concerns of injury to the kids with the dog getting too rambunctious. Older children typically understand the issues and get along fantastically with Boxers. The Boxer will be naturally very protective of children and will defend the kids if other people or dogs try to approach.

The Boxer is an extremely clean dog and is somewhat cat like in his or her self-grooming routines. They are incredibly easy to housetrain and, when given the opportunity to get outside, learn within a week or two. Boxers can be trained to be guard dogs but will need little if any training to be very good watch dogs.

IDEAL OWNER: An active family with children and a yard to run and play would be good for Olive. If someone works from home and takes at least 2 walks a day that would meet her needs. However, in her younger years, Olive needs her family to make sure she gets enough exercise on a daily basis. If there was another dog, Olive would be a good match for all dogs. Sweet Olive would be a perfect daily friend, companion and protector. Lucky family that is approved for her will know they have a very special dog that they will remember for a lifetime.

About Our Rescue

These dogs deserve all of our attention, and in Rescue Dog Village, we are committed to our adopters and our dogs equally. We offer full disclosure and hope to make the best matches possible. Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.

Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It's sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don't want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It's that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that's our goal!

Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WE'VE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history!

Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you'll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can't continue rescue if we don't do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family's eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you've submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well

If you have the time and love to offer this extremely bright dog who can make you laugh for hours at his antics, PLEASE APPLY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RESCUE DOG VILLAGE DOG AND GIVE ONE A HOME. Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. Make no mistake about it, this is one spectacular dog!

Please contact RescueDogVillage@yahoo.com and we will be happy to return your correspondence, but please submit the application now so we can have that information as a starting base for our dialogue.

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE!

ALL interested adopters MUST complete an application; agree to a vet reference check, phone interview and home visit. ALL family members MUST be in attendance for home visits - no exceptions. This helps us get to know everyone in the family so that we can help find the right dog for you.
