Tommie is a handsome, loveable, young 15" Beagle who is only 1-2 years old and weighs ~28 pounds (full grown). Tommie came to us from a rural shelter in WV. He was picked up as a stray so we don't have any information about his past. He is a friendly dog, but he's a tad shy until he gets to know you. He can be easily intimidated by quick hand gestures (quickly raising a hand or reaching over him to grab his collar, etc.) but we have been working with him since he arrived to help overcome this and he has made great progress. Tommie is current on routine vaccinations, already neutered, crate trained and microchipped. He has done very well with housetraining too, but will probably need some reinforcement in a new environment. He's a playful, energetic, and sometimes mischievous young Beagle that gets along well with other same-sized dogs. He would be fine with dog-savvy cats though he would probably enjoy chasing anything that runs. He has not been observed around young children as of yet, and may be better suited to a home with older kids. Tommie will need a home with people that have the time, patience and dedication to continue working with him to help build his self confidence through basic training and positive reinforcement. He is very willing to please and has already learned basic commands like SIT. Tommie is a gentle and very affectionate dog who is anxious to meet his forever family--preferably with some prior Beagle experience.
Important: Tommie is not at a shelter where you can go to meet her. All Safe Hounds Beagles are cared for in a loving foster home. Prospective adopters MUST submit an adoption application and be pre-approved before meeting a dog. Submitting an application does not guarantee you will be approved.
