Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We got a frantic email about a dachshund whose time was up in a shelter. This dog had been left in a night drop box. She had gotten a “D” on the shelter’s temperament test so she was not available to be adopted. (She was visibly terrified, had her tail between her legs and she tried biting the assess–a-hand). As a breed, dachshunds do not do well in a shelter and this dog’s behavior was fairly standard, so we agreed to make space for her. Since the shelter would not give us even an extra hour to arrange transport, one of our wonderful volunteers raced to pick her up before her PTS time.
The dog, now named, Clara, has really blossomed in her foster home. From the moment she was away from the chaos and noise of the shelter, she became a sweet dog. She is a little shy with strangers so we think she would do best in a home with older children or no children. Given a few moments to get to know you, and she is all kisses.
We can’t decide if 5 yr old Clara had been a former yard dog or not. She appears housebroken which supports the not, but she also spends most of her daylight hours outside sunning herself. (Contrast this to most of the other doxies in her foster home who have to be forced to go outside.)
Clara is very good with other dogs. She spent her first night in foster care in her own crate. At bedtime the second night, she raced into the big crate where a group of three doxies slept. She squished into the corner and made it clear she was going to sleep with this pack, rather than by herself. At nap time, we also find her curled up with another dog or two.
Clara had been covered in fleas and was missing some hair when she arrived. With flea treatment, good food and a cozy inside bed, she is getting a shiny coat to go with her incredibly cute face.
We have had Clara spayed and given her a dental She is current on her vaccinations.
If you are interested in Clara, please fill out an adoption application and email Lindy at linla@comcast.net.
The tax deductible donation for Clara is $200
