Marlo is a joy to have in our home. She wants nothing more then to please her humans. She is learning basic commands such as sit and down. She is very intelligent and picks things up rather quick. She enjoys her walks, and does not pull or allow things to distract her (example: other animals or people or garbage blowing in the street). She is a very social dog and gets along well with our cat and dog. She just needs to be reminded once in a while when playing not to be so rough, as she get excited when playing. Marlo is a high energy dog as she is still young. She does enjoy playing with the children in the home and the ones who visit. These children range in age from 10 months to 18 years old. She is gentle with the little ones and enjoys sharing her toys with them. She is on the road to being fully house trained with the odd pee-pee accident when over excited. She has not left any other kinds of messes and has learned to sleep quietly in her crate at night.
Marlo does not counter surf. She is a chewer and will chew things that are in her reach and will take food that is left at her level. Such as out of a child's hand or off a small table (coffee table or child’s table). She did not know any commands when she came to us but is currently working on sit, down and stay. She will sit when we stop at a corner when on walks and is learning to sit and wait when she is being served food or water. Marlo is house trained but will tinkle at times when she is overly excited to see you. Crate training is in progress. She did not like her crate at first when we put her in but is settling in nicely. She only uses it at night as I am home during the day and when I do go out she gets gated to the kitchen where her crate is located and she is free to explore it and use it if she wants.
She is great on a leash and walks beside you with no pulling. She has learned to sit when we get to corners and is learning to sit when ever I stop. She also walks well next to a baby stroller. She does not try to get out of the yard but will try to get out the front door when it gets opened.
I have not seen any signs of aggression, however she does need to be supervised when playing with other dogs as she tends to get a little rough - jumping on them and trying to mount and nip them. These are things that can be corrected. She has not shown any signs of be shy or fearful of people, she does cower when she hears motorcycles or other loud vehicles when on our walks. She does jump when a loud vehicle passes us during our walks, but once she looks up and sees you are with her she continues on her way. She did show a lot of anxiety at first but is slowly starting to realize that we are not going far and when we do leave the house she only whines and barks for a moment and then settles down.
Marlo loves playing with our dog and also gets along well with the cat. During our walks she gets to meet many other dogs and cats and squirrels. She could care less that they are there unless you tell her its ok. Otherwise she just walks right passed as if they were not there. Marlo is just learning what playing is so as of right now its just grabbing her pink rope bear toy and shaking it till she falls over, then she kind of looks at it and does it all over again. We are currently working on playing fetch.
I would say Marlo has a moderate energy level and that should change to a low level as she gets older. I would say she is a low shedder. When brushed you don't get a lot of hair and there is little to no hair on her blanket. She is quiet for the most part only barking when she wants something EXAMPLE: in from out side or when she wants to play.
Marlo would do well in a home with other dogs or cats. She is very affectionate and loves to be petted and played with. She would do well as a family pet.
If you think Marlo would be a good choice for your family, please submit an application for consideration.
