About Our Rescue Group...
Mission
We want to try to save as many of these horses as we physically can by going to auctions and purchasing (saving) them refurbishing all their medical & nutritional needs and finding them safe, loving forever homes. Many people are not aware of how wonderful a Percheron performs as a riding companion, through our Rescue, we hope to inform the public & community of this simple & rewarding new job for these gentle giants.

Although our primary mission is focused on the Percheron, we would NEVER turn away any other horse in need of our help.

Any horse/pony that comes to Iron Gait Percheron Facility and is not adoptable due to his/her injuries, etc., WILL have a home for the rest of their life in our Community at IRON GAIT.

Please join us in our efforts and let people know that there is a need for support!
Come Meet Our Pets...
We hold an Open House event every other month. Tours can be booked by appointment also.
Our Adoption Process...
We will screen potential adoptive families and the facilities available for the horse(s). This process also will allow us the opportunity to provide those people who are committed to our mission with a wonderful companion to love and cherish.

If you are truly committed to providing a rescued horse(s) a safe, loving home, then we have every confidence that you will be a long-term ally in our fight to stop equine abuse and neglect. We spend plenty of time talking with the adopters as well as watching them interact with our horses. When there is question in a potential adoptive family’s knowledge, it does NOT result in automatic disqualification.

There is nothing wrong with providing education to a new family. It is vital to make a great match that will stand the test of time. Questions will most likely be asked about the kind of riding the family plans to do. New families may be checked for their knowledge of horses, including riding, basic training, training philosophy that is compatible with ours, and basic health care knowledge.

The process of attempting to match people and horse(s) is just as important and insuring that your facility is safe and free of hazards. Opinions may differ, but we place emphasis on having the horse’s home provide lots of room to play and move. We prefer a facility with a proper shelter and lots of room, than to one with a fancy stall and limited turn out time. When all of these components come together, we are well on the way to a everlasting relationship & new home.

**It is important to understand, that horses (and other equine) that have survived the abuse and neglect that brought them into our program, may never be free of the physical or psychological trauma they were forced to endure.
Thankfully, that is not usually the case, but as in most aspects of life, there are no guarantees.

**There will be NO holding of horses until adopter is approved.
It is the best option to be pre-qualified for adoption so that you do not miss out on a horse that interests you.
Prior to the application, you must read and initial and return IGP Adoption/Foster Requirement form.(by email or mail)

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Pixie, a Waleska Quarterhorse/Paint/Pinto was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Quarterhorse/Paint/Pinto for sale in Waleska, or seeking a Quarterhorse/Paint/Pinto from a breeder in Waleska.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Waleska already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Waleska breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Quarterhorse/Paint/Pinto breeders who help with Quarterhorse/Paint/Pinto rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Waleska paves the way for another one to be saved.
