Sammy's Story...
Sammy was brought to a kill shelter with head trauma. He had to leave immediately and to an emergency hospital because the shelter does not the resources to treat him. His rescue was a gamble because we had no idea how serious his injury was. It turned out that his trauma was in the sinus area (he most likely fell out of a window and was abandoned or brought to a shelter by his owner who thought the treatment was too costly). The good news was that it was healing quickly and did not require any medication except for pain management and antibiotic to prevent infection.

Sammy moved to a wonderful foster home the following day and recovered quickly. He loves to chase paper balls, is super playful and breathtakingly handsome.

This is what his foster mom says about Sammy:
He is terrific. He's completed antibiotics and pain killer treatment and is 100% healthy- no cognitive or coordination problems and no need for long term meds. He is still kitten-like and loves to play. He is very social and likes to be in the room where the people are and to lie down near us (on the bath mat, kitchen floor, bed or couch). He's been through so much and every day he seems to become less nervous (maybe scared?) and more and more loving and trusting- he loves attention and being pet. He's also an amazingly good boy- perfect at using the litter and never scratches the furniture. We have three cats of our own and he's very interested in playing with them and making friends. Right now he's sleeping against my leg and stretching out his paw to touch one of our cats who is sleeping next to him, so I think he'd be open to a dog. We had company yesterday and he was friendly and interested in them, even though it was hectic and busy- I think he enjoyed it. "

He is ready for his forever, loving, stable and SAFE home.

Rescue Group Info...

About Our Rescue Group...
North Brooklyn Cats specializes in taking in orphaned "bottle-babies" from other rescues and from the streets of our neighborhood. These tiny kittens require round-the-clock care and often don't do well in a shelter environment. We have many years experience volunteering and working for shelters and rescue organizations in New York City.
Come Meet Our Pets...
We have special adoption events in the neighborhood and also work with other rescue groups, sharing resources whenever possible.
Our Adoption Process...
Cat and kitten adoptions require a $100.00 donation, which helps us cover the costs of delivering them already spayed/neutered, tested for feline AIDS and leukemia, current on vaccines, dewormed and treated for any health problems we were aware of. We generally require that kittens under five months of age be adopted in two's unless you already have another pet. Adoptions require an application that asks for two references and a contract. We deliver your new cat to your home, generally within a few days of getting your application. We are happy to help should you need advice or assistance with your new companion before or after the adoption.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
The five boroughs of New York City. In special circumstances, we will consider good homes in surrounding areas.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sammy, a Brooklyn Maine Coon cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Maine Coon for sale in Brooklyn, or seeking a Maine Coon cat from a breeder in Brooklyn.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Brooklyn already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Brooklyn breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Maine Coon breeders who help with Maine Coon rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Brooklyn paves the way for another one to be saved.
