My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Suzu, which means "charm bell" in Japanese, is a 10 1/2 year old pure bred Black and Tan female Shiba Inu that we pulled from a puppy mill in late April. Before coming into rescue she had never been on grass, never worn a harness or walked on a leash, never been inside of a house. While still very shy with people, she has made some substantial progress and we feel that she deserves to continue her journey in a forever home.

Suzu does not yet interact much with people and would prefer a quiet home that will allow her to come out of her shell in her own time. Children make her nervous so no kids please. She is great with other dogs and is learning to run around the backyard in her foster home and play. We would ask that there be another well rounded, friendly, but not super hyper, dog in the house that can be her companion and show her the ropes. She is also good with cats.

Suzu has also learned to ring a bell to ask to go outside and will put herself away in her crate when told. Suzu isstill pretty terrified of walking on a leash so no apartments. However she does do much better following ther resident dog when they walk together.

We understand that adopting a dog like Suzu is more of a selfless act, as her interactions with people are few and far between, but we are sure the right person is out there. Recommended reading for Suzu would be Help for Your Fearful Dog by Nicole Wilde. Another great book would be On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals.

Suzu's adoption fee of $50.00 has been sponsered and paid for because one of our generous fans wanted to help get Suzu into the forever family she deserves. Suzu has been spayed, received a surgical dental, microchip, deworming, and distemper vaccination.
