Yogi's Story...
Hi, my name is Yogi. It means "Old Man River." My foster mom says I’m one of the greatest dogs she’s ever met and that I have the ability to instantly heal broken hearts. I’m around 15 years old. Yep, 15! I’m an old man. I’m a bit wobbly so I tend to trip easily and I’m also pretty leaky; as in I can’t always tell when I need to pee until I accidentally do. Things happen when you get older you know. Mayday says that I will come with a special bed to help with cleaning up after me since night time can be a bit worse if I don’t get to go out on schedule; usually 10 pm, 2:45 am and 7 am is fine. My vision is still pretty decent but my hearing is not the best, although it is quite selective as well. I came to Mayday after a “sanctuary” was discovered to be a bad hoarding, abuse, neglect situation and it was raided. There were 298 of us who made it out alive.
I have very adorable features and am very handsome. I haven’t met a person yet who didn’t agree. I have a very asymmetrical look going on with one ear being higher up on my head than it should be. Unfortunately the reason I have these endearing features, misshapen head and am wobbly is from suffering blunt force trauma to my head at some point in my life. All of that bad stuff is behind me now though.
Most of my days are spent napping and lying beside my foster mom. I like to be near her so I usually follow her from room to room. I’m really good with everyone I meet. I am great with kids, dogs and cats. I don’t play for very long periods, usually only a couple minutes at a time, but I still play every day. I have a lot of arthritis in my hips and base of my spine so I can’t be as active anymore but I take medication to help with it. Some of my favorite things to do are go for slow walks at the park, enjoy a peanut butter filled Kong, chew on the flexible Nylabones and try to get as many treats as I can in a day. I’m pretty good at getting what I want. I’m too cute to resist. Every night I get tucked into bed and my foster mom will rub my face and head til I fall asleep. I make little noises to let her know I enjoy it and if she stops too soon I will rub my head against her hand to get her to continue. Once again, I pretty much get anything I want. I like it that way.
My personality is a bit aloof around people I don’t know well. I’m always polite and say hello, allowing the customary scratches behind the ears and pat on my head but beyond that I prefer to do my own thing or stick with my favorite humans. I’m also a comedian and do silly stuff and make people laugh. If you would like to meet me, contact Mayday!
