Penny's Story...
My name is Penny. I’m a 2-3 yr. old Pit Bull/ Chinese Shar Pei mix. I’m really sweet and love to give kisses. I wish I was a little smaller so I could sit in everyone’s lap but I’ve been told I’m too big for that. I have sucked it up and have learned what down means and found that my doggy bed is just as comfortable. I actually prefer it now. I used to live in a truck yard where I had quite a few litters of puppies. The owner of the lot’s wife was going to kill me because I came into heat again and didn’t want more stray puppies around (like I wanted them either). Forgotten Dogs picked up one of my babies, then finally me and my friend Stanley too!

It took me a couple of days to find my place at my foster mom’s house just because there was already two other big dogs there as well. I’m so used to having dogs pick on me and try to breed with me while I’m in heat, that I never knew what it was like to trust another dog. I probably would be happier as an only dog so if it's just me I would be fine with that. I just want to be right by your side all the time and don’t like being left alone if I know you are home.

I am kennel trained and am starting to get better about going to my crate on command. I’m also already potty trained and don’t have any accidents as long as I’m taken out regularly but I’m still grasping the concept of going to the door when I want to go outside. I’m pretty much all that and a bag of bacon strips and ready to find my forever home! Oh yeah, I also had double entropion (top and bottom) in both eyes but just had surgery to correct it (and got spayed!) on December 3rd. So I should be ready to go to my new home a week or two after my surgery.

Rescue Group Info...

About Our Rescue Group...
We rescue in a low income area of Houston called the 5th Ward. We founded Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project about a year ago to address what we saw as an obvious need to help the many stray dogs we were seeing in there. We set up feeding stations and network and pull as many as we can when a foster home or no-kill rescue group says they can take them in. One of our goals is education and we provide residents with vouchers that cover the complete cost of having their animals altered and vaccinated against rabies. In addition, we provide other vaccinations and worming in the field free of charge. Since November 2011 we have grown in size and have rescued over 250 dogs and a few cats from the area. We are launching a program called Habitat for Hounds through which we will donate doghouses and blankets to residents for their dogs that are kept outside. Our website is forgottendogs.org and we are a 501c3.
Come Meet Our Pets...
We do not have a regular adoption site at this time, but stay tuned to our facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/ForgottenDogs5) for our upcoming events!
Our Adoption Process...
Our adoption fee ranges from $100 to $150. We have an online application and a contract and all dogs/puppies are either spayed/neutered prior to adoption if old enough or arrangements are made to have them spayed/neutered afterwards.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Penny, a Porter Shar Pei/American Pit Bull Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shar Pei/American Pit Bull Terrier for sale in Porter, or seeking a Shar Pei/American Pit Bull Terrier dog from a breeder in Porter.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Porter already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Porter breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shar Pei/American Pit Bull Terrier breeders who help with Shar Pei/American Pit Bull Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Porter paves the way for another one to be saved.
