Lucian's Story...
Meet Lucian. He is a well-behaved, well-mannered German Shepherd/cattle dog mix who is good with cats, but not so much other dogs. Lucian LOVES to swim! When found, he was starving and infested with parasites. Now he is completely healthy, completely potty trained, current on vaccinations and has been neutered. Lucian is non-destructive, trust worthy, obedient, loyal, wants to be the King of the palace. He's a Caretaker, a good nurse, always wants to lick your wounds, watchful, caring, affectionate, protective, highly intelligent, very playful* loves for you to play tennis ball w/him and give him lots of toys! Enjoys long walks. Needs Large fenced yard, he likes to run fast! But is calm indoors; Great indoor buddy! Loves people. Wants to please* Great family dog, but must be the only dog. About Our Rescue Group...
We rescue in a low income area of Houston called the 5th Ward. We founded Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project about a year ago to address what we saw as an obvious need to help the many stray dogs we were seeing in there. We set up feeding stations and network and pull as many as we can when a foster home or no-kill rescue group says they can take them in. One of our goals is education and we provide residents with vouchers that cover the complete cost of having their animals altered and vaccinated against rabies. In addition, we provide other vaccinations and worming in the field free of charge. Since November 2011 we have grown in size and have rescued over 250 dogs and a few cats from the area. We are launching a program called Habitat for Hounds through which we will donate doghouses and blankets to residents for their dogs that are kept outside. Our Adoption Process...
Our adoption fee ranges from $100 to $150. We have an online application and a contract and all dogs/puppies are either spayed/neutered prior to adoption if old enough or arrangements are made to have them spayed/neutered afterwards.
