My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Up until I was lucky enough to come to AAP, I lived my live on the poor side of the tracks somewhere in central Illinois. I was found as a stray; underweight, undernourished and I didn’t feel well. Things are so much brighter for me now... I feel so much better and am learning to love life, really – for the first time.

I heard my foster mom say that I’m no more 3 years old, and that maybe I’m a pointer or hound mix and I weigh 33 lb (so I’m smaller than I look in my photos). I LOVE to run and to play with other dogs, I walk well on a leash, and I’m friendly with people of all sizes that I’ve been introduced to. I even love my veterinarian and give her kisses when I see her! I don't mind it when my foster mom cleans my ears or my paws or lifts my lip to check out my teeth...I like being touched. If I’m doing something I shouldn’t be, all you have to do is say “No!” in a stern voice and I’ll stop immediately. I'm trained to go potty outside, but I’ll use piddle pads if that’s my only option.

While initially reluctant with strangers, all you need to do is to talk gently to me and allow me to sniff your hand and it’s all good. Just don’t come at me fast and disrespectful, as that kind of intimidates me.

Here is what I heard my foster mom say to someone on the phone: “It’s unbelievable how sweet this dog is. She’s really trainable and so responsive to correction. Zoey is going to make someone a wonderful companion.” So I guess that means I’ll have to leave here soon, which I’ll be a little nervous about, but golly, I know a wonderful life awaits me with one of you.

Zoey's adoption fee of $280 includes: vet exam, heartworm treatment, distemper combo vaccination, bordetella and rabies vaccinations, fecal test and deworming, flea control, microchip and spay.
