Facts about Velma

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Black & White Or Tuxedo
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
Velma is a female domestic shorthair black and white bicolor, three years old as of February 2014.

Velma, like her namesake from the musical “Chicago,” is a sassy little lady with a lot to say. She will take her time to get to know you, but once she does, she will rarely leave your side. The most “feral” of her littermates when they arrived at the shelter as tiny kittens, Velma took awhile to learn that humans are OK, but with a lot of love from staff and volunteers, she has blossomed into quite a sweet and loving kitty. She would love a home with her sister, Roxie, or another friendly feline to pal around with.

About Animal House Cat Rescue and Adoption Center

About Our Shelter...

Animal House Cat Rescue and Adoption Center is a private, non-profit, “no-kill” organization dedicated to providing the homeless, abandoned cats and kittens of St. Louis with a better life. We are committed to maintaining an adoption center that provides a safe, healthy and enriching environment and our goal is a solid and lasting adoption for every cat and kitten in our care.

Animal House opened in August 2010 when the City of St. Louis closed its municipal shelter and ended a number of services for stray animals. Not only did the 75 cats residing in their shelter need a place to go, the St. Louis community needed services for abandoned, homeless cats. Animal House was born out of that need. Today we house 225-300 cats and kittens at any given time.

The cats and kittens at Animal House are rescued from the streets of our community and often come from challenging circumstances that include neglect, abandonment, or injury. We have created a safe place where cats in need find shelter, medical and nutritional support, individualized socialization and interaction, enrichment, lots of love, and the opportunity to connect with a loving, lifelong family. We impose no time limit on this process, giving each cat or kitten the time they need. We emphasize matchmaking throughout our adoption process to ensure the best possible match.

Our Adoption Process...

1. Find the cats/cat or kittens/kitten you fall in love with.

3. All cats and kittens must be seen by our vets. The vetting can take working 7 days if the Spay or Neuter needs to be completed.
