Kirk is a large, lovable boy who wants only two things in life - a forever home of his own and plenty of food! Kirk is very food motivated, and will train quickly with the use of treats as rewards. He's loving and friendly and loves getting scratched and having his ears rubbed. Kirk was pulled from a kill shelter in OH and is neutered, has all shots, and heartworm negative and on preventative. Won't you consider giving this handsome, loving boy a warm bed and loving home?
Rescue Group Info...
I have loved animals since I was a child, and am especially fond of hounds. I have five rescue dogs of my own - all hounds, and three cats - all found as strays and were unable to find their owners. I am heartbroken daily as I see the number of beautiful hounds dumped at high-kill shelters, especially in the south. Many have been used for hunting and have had virtually NO vetting. Hounds make wonderful family pets and I want to save as many as we can. As Hearts and Hounds Rescue grows we will be taking other breeds, including cats.
In addition to saving dogs and cats from kill shelters and finding them homes, our long-term goals include increasing community involvement. We will be starting childrens' groups - Hearts and Hounds KIDS and Hearts and Hounds TEENS.

Adoption fee for most dogs is $150 (dogs are fully vetted, spayed/neutered, and will be microchipped). Adopters will be be required to sign an adoption contract, including a return to rescue policy should they not be able to keep the animal. We will check references, including the adopter's vet, and do a home check. We currently don't have fosters to handle cats, but when we do the adoption policies for cats will be basically the same as for dogs. Adoption fee for cats will be $100-150.
NW Indiana and into IL - as a new rescue, we are limiting adoptions to within 50 miles of area code 46375, but will expand our area as we build our volunteer force.
