My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rocket, he is a purebred 2 1/2 year old male. He is one gorgeous, happy boy!!! With some good food and lots of love he will stop traffic with his dark red color and beautiful smile. GRFR doesn't know anything about his past; we suspect if he could tell us, we would cry.

Rocket is VERY thin and is working on his diet so he can add on a few lbs. At first he was very skittish about new places and things. He also arrived in Colorado with a serious razor burn from his neuter. He was obviously in a lot of pain for several days. Now he is getting excellent care and medication and has improved significantly overnight. He is gaining confidence and playfulness daily. His main ambition right now is to be a lap dog. He loves cuddling and can't wait until he is able to go to the dog park and play. He is discovering toys and balls.

By good fortune, he spent a couple of hours in a home with cats before going to his foster home. He was great with them.

He would do best in a home with patience and minimal loud noises and only dog-savvy older children. He does get anxious if he thinks someone is going to cause him pain.

He is housebroken and whimpers when he wants to go out. He is nice on a leash and is getting more comfortable about getting in and out of the car. He loves to ride and look out the window.

If you are interested in giving this handsome guy a forever home, please fill out an application and one of our GRFR volunteers will contact you soon!

Please remember that GRFR adopts puppies to forever families who have sufficient time at home to socialize, house train and nurture their new puppy. Also note: puppies should not leave your yard or be exposed to any other dogs unless you are certain that such other dogs have been fully vaccinated and are older than six months. They should not go to parks or PetSmart or anywhere else until they have their last booster shot, as they could contract a potentially lethal virus. Before taking your puppy to puppy class please discuss vaccination requirements for various classes with your trainer or vet. Puppies often need a few dewormers and we encourage you to discuss this with your vet. For more information, please take a look at www.goldenretrieverfreedom.org. Please review the adoption requirements before submitting an online application.
