Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Callie is one of those dogs who steals your heart and never lets go. This adorable, onyx-colored beauty was a pitiful sight when she was first rescued. Callie and her BFF/brother, Opie, had been cruelly abandoned along a country road - left to survive on garbage and puddles of muddy water. Opie was the first to be spotted on the road side. As his rescuer approached, she saw a black head pop up out of the tall grass behind Opie. Callie stood up and approached her rescuer. She was skin and bones, completely scratched up and flea and tick-infested, but her tail was wagging and her eyes were full of hope. Maybe, just maybe, for the first time in her life, a human being would show her a little kindness. Minutes later, on a leash, Callie licked her rescuer's hand and her foster mom was hooked. We learned how loyal Callie and Opie are when we spotted their 3rd sibling's lifeless body in the flooded creek nearby. The pups had been lying on the creek's edge, with the rushing water a steep 15' drop below. They didn't want to leave their friend. Sadly, it was too late to save the 3rd dog, but Callie and Opie's lives were saved that day. They have regained their health and are the happiest, most loving dogs you could imagine. They are still a little fearful around new people and new surroundings, but they warm up, once they realize they are safe. Neither dog has ever shown an ounce of aggression toward humans or other animals. Callie and Opie love to ride in the car and will calmly lie down on the backseat without a peep. They are learning basic obedience commands and leash-training. (These are 2 smart cookies!) Both are crate-trained and they seem to be housetrained. The pups were born some time between July and September of 2006. "Calliekins" weighs about 47# and "Opie-Dopie" weighs about 52#. We are pretty sure they are litter-mates. Both dogs are current on shots, wormed, spayed/neutered, heartworm-negative and are on monthly heartworm prevention and Frontline Plus. Because they are so attached, and play so beautifully together, we are looking for an adopter who will welcome both dogs into their home. They would do very well in a home with an experienced dog owner, who will continue their obedience training and socialization. Callie and Opie love to play-wrestle and chase each other around the yard, so they will need room to stretch their legs. **Applicants for Callie and Opie must have a verifiable history with a vet. A home visit will be required prior to adoption.** If you can provide these precious pups with the stability, love and care they deserve, and would like to make them permanent members of your family, please complete our online application today: www.tassieshope.org
