My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 1/21/13!!!

Sweet and adorable Cody somehow found himself at a shelter and when his owner was contacted, he was supposed to come and get him but never did. He is good with everything and everyone. – he loves cats, dogs and people -- kids too. He is a larger sized Golden boy and is about 16-18 months old. Cody is now in his foster home in New England. His foster mom tells us, “He is a cutie and is long and lanky. Cody is a wonderful Gentle Giant who wants lots of affection. He is a total lover-boy. He has a true Golden personality and loves people - he will be your giant golden shadow. Cody is a Golden mix with his shorter ears, a long nose, and dark rings that frame his eyes. He has a great smile! He is very responsive and will be easy to train since he is so eager to please you. He knows his name but always responds to "good boy."

Cody is not a high energy dog and will certainly not be a jogging partner but enjoys a nice walk. In his former life, this poor boy had both bones in his left leg broken and it is now about an inch shorter than the other one. Cody’s foster mom, reported, “He is incredibly gentle but he may be a bit much for very small children just because of his size. However, he is the gentlest guy you ever saw and he could be trained not to jump quite readily. He has not even attempted to chew anything except his toys.

Cody gets along great with my dog but may be happier as an only dog since he wants ALL of his owner’s attention. If my dog, Ranger, comes over for some love, Cody puts his big body in the way. LOL He is not a problem barker but anyone who adopts him will certainly not need an alarm system. His bark will deter any intruder. He was barking at his reflection in the window and anyone outside would not enter if they heard that!”

Cody is waiting for his new best buddy to come and take him HOME. This is one special dog that is not to be missed. Cody is a low maintenance dog and his goal is just to be with you! He just wants to know that when he curls up on his big, soft bed at night he will receive a pat on his head and hear the words, “I love you, Cody!”

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
