Azure's Story...
This sweet girl was a very emotional case for Zoe's House. We had been contacted by a young man that was in dire need of finding help for a pitbull in the area. This pibble girl is only a year old and has had a broken leg for at least a week. She has had no veterinary treatment and has been in such pain. We immediately said that we would take her although we had no room and lined up emergency intake. After meeting with the man and completing the surrender, we knew that this poor baby had to seek emergency veterinary treatment. We rushed to the Animal Hospital and began evaluation. Her leg was fractured and severed in multiple areas, her rib was broken, her head had lesions and bumps all over and from all of the abuse....she is mostly blind. It is clear to us that someone took a baseball bat or another blunt object to this little angel. MAKES US SICK!!! WHer ear was so infected that it was full of blood and pus and ready to burst open. We had never seen anything like it. I couldn't even look directly at her ear and painful eyes as it just made me cry. Her leg was operated on and a plate was inserted. It seems to be doing the trick and she is using the leg. Her ear was drained and sutured and it has become a somewhat normal size. It will probably never be 100% normal due to all the swelling, but it is pretty close. Through all of this, all this baby girl could do was kiss your face. What kind of animal could do this to such a sweet baby?!?! We have all shed many tears out of this, but we are so grateful for her savior and the man that called to inform us of the situation and to ultimately get her help. Without him, she would surely have been dead in a few days.

Azure is adjusting well to foster care. She is trusting people more and more and is even going to events with the rescue. Even though she has seen the absolute worst in people, she just wants to be loved. She LOVES belly rubs and really enjoys treats and bones. She is great with her foster family and is even good with her 3 year old human foster brother. Azure has a huge heart and truly just wants someone to call her own. She wants to be someones world. In her short life, all she knows is hate and abuse and we promised her that her life would be different from this point forward.

At this time, Azure has not been cat or dog tested. She is continuing to heal and that is our main focus. If you are interested in giving Azure a home once she fully recovers and show her the love that she truly deserves, please complete an application on our website at www.zoeshouserescue.com.

About Our Rescue Group...
Who We Are:
Zoe's House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare group based out of Sinking Spring,PA. We are comprised solely of volunteers that generously volunteer their time, their homes and their hearts. We are dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected or abandoned animals from high kill shelters or from owners who can no longer care for them. We provide the animals with loving foster care, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation until we are able to pair them with compatible and loving forever homes. At times we also offer permanent sanctuary to those with special or medical needs and that are considered unadoptable.

Zoe's House serves as a resource to our community and to our adopters by
providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, the importance of spay/neuter, behavior training, nutrition, puppy mill awareness, heartworm preventative and breed education. Our organization also networks with other shelters and rescues. We try to assist other organizations when possible.

Zoe’s House is not federally funded, and relies solely on donations to continue to rescue. Although we are not breed specific, the need to save Dobermans, Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Pitbulls is ever growing; therefore, we have focused primarily on saving the lives of our beloved and majestic strong breeds.

What We do:
There are many people involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of each dog we take in. Our rescue effort starts with the initial intake request for a dog. Whether this be at a shelter of from an individual in the community, we try to gather as much information as we can. We then pickup or transport the dog to safety in rescue. At this time we administer immediate veterinary care to determine the health of the dog and ensure the animal has proper immunizations. We also have bloodwork done for a heartworm check, lyme, fecal and sometimes a blood panel depending on the age and health of the dog. The dog remains in "in-home" foster care and becomes a part of the fosters family for an undefined period of time. We evaluate the dog and work on basic manners and obedience. At times we have dogs for a longer duration due to health and/or age. The dogs in our care come with us to adoption events, home screenings, and ultimately permanent placement. Zoe's House then provides post-adoption follow-up and support and welcomes the new family to the "Zoe's House Family!" We strive to stay in close contact with all of our adopters to ensure the transition and life long relationship continues to be magical. We remain dedicated to the principal that we never want one of our rescues to end up in a shelter or in a home that does not provide a responsible and loving environment for the life of the animal.

We truly believe that one dog at a time... we are making a difference!

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Sinking Spring already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Sinking Spring breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
