My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Captain was adopted from GREAT several years ago, but due to his owner's serious illness he has returned to foster care. Having just turned 9 years old, Captain is a handsome, easy-going boy who is cat-friendly and gets along well with the energetic whippet in his new foster home. He has adjusted with ease to his foster home, learning to get up and down the stairs on his first day. Within a few days, he was coming to meet his new foster parents at the door wagging his tail happily. He loves to go for walks with his new whippet buddy, walking very nicely without pulling on his leash. He particularly likes children, wagging his tail whenever he sees them on his walks. He loves to lay in the sun in the yard and is equally happy just lounging around on his bed in the house. He sleeps well through the night on a blanket in his foster parents bedroom. Although he apparently has not been routinely crated, he’s learned to go into his crate when his foster folks are away.

He has a condition called diabetes insipidus, which has nothing to do with insulin and is managed with a simple eye drop twice a day. He also has a cataract in one eye, which seems to have no effect on his ability to get around and enjoy life.

Update: Captain has been with his foster family about 3 weeks and has begun to take doggie treats directly from his foster folks' hands. Up until recently, he was a little shy and would only eat his treats if they were put on his dog bed (where he had to be fast to prevent his whippet housemate from stealing them! ) His foster folks' 10 year old granddaughter visited recently for the weekend and he loved all the extra attention he got from her, following her all over the house. It was a special treat when she took him for his walks.

Because he is a special needs dog, he is eligible for GREAT’s Care For Life Program.

Captain is a loving, trusting, sweet fellow who will adjust well to almost any home!
