My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

01/06/13: Gumdrop was dumped in a very rural and heavily wooded area about 90 miles southwest of Little Rock, Arkansas. The young couple that found her had been hiking in a mountainous area near their own property and saw something moving. They went to check it out and there she was, starving, flea-infested and freezing cold.

But Gumdrop’s story gets better, much better! She was rescued and went to a wonderful family in Arkansas, where she was vetted, groomed and loved before she traveled to her Virginia BDRA foster home.

Gumdrop is a friendly, loving, eleven pound, approximately eight year old poodle with beautiful soft curls. She is in good health except for still being a little itchy from having all those fleas on her for so long. With time, the itchiness should resolve. She just had a dental and her teeth are now clean and in good shape. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. Two vets have confirmed her spay.

Gumdrop has a mature cataract in her right eye and a hypermature cataract in her left. Therefore, she doesn’t have much vision at all but she does remarkably well getting around the house - and she hears well too!

And the good things about Gumdrop go on! She is housetrained (not one accident yet!) and crate trained. She sleeps quietly through the night. She loves to cuddle and is also happy snoozing on a soft dog bed. She does pretty well on a leash and can easily go up and down the few steps from the yard to the deck. She has a great appetite. She gets along with cats and dogs. And she loves people, and loves to give kisses and to play.

In Arkansas, she was in a home with children, ages 9 and 11, and did just fine. She has not been around younger children that we know of, but it is assumed, because of her gentle, friendly personality, she would do well with younger children who were supervised when they were around her (as all young children should be supervised when around dogs).

So Gumdrop is now waiting, waiting, waiting for the right person to realize what a great dog she is and to fill out an adoption application. Being only about 8 years old, she has many years left of her life. She has so much love to give and would be a wonderful addition to almost any home!
