Millie's Story...
Millie is an adorable, chunky little monkey! She is 11 years old, but still gets along great. Millie came to stay with us when her owner's fiance was determined to be allergic to her and to her pug friend, Mala. I have known Millie for years and it was my intention to have her stay with us in case her owner could ever take her back. After nearly a year though, I have realized that a crazy rescue house with new dogs coming and going all the time is not the ideal place for the pugs. They are getting older and deserve to have a more calm household with more one-on-one attention. Millie is very low-maintenance. She is completely non-destructive and has few accidents. She can't jump up on most furniture, so she has to be lifted up. She does have to sleep on the bed with people. This is how she has had it her whole life, so that needs to continue in her new home. An adopter needs to be aware that pugs snore! Millie's friend Mala is 8 years old. It would be nice if they went to a home together, as they are use to each other. However, they would likely do ok if separated. They have a strange relationship - they hang out together from time to time, but they don't really play together. Millie is pretty indifferent to dogs and children. She gets along with everyone just fine, but doesn't seek out a lot of interaction. She does get goofy and playful whenever you pet her. Her health is decent for her age. She is a bit stiff in the mornings, a little deaf and she could use a teeth cleaning soon. She is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. Millie's adoption fee alone is $125 or $200 for Mala and Millie together. If you are interested in meeting Millie and/or Mala, please contact Delon.Washo@asu.edu or 602-295-4518.

About Our Rescue Group...
AZ Prussian Snailhound Dog Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit organization that is committed to providing rescue and safe-haven for dogs in need. Most of the dogs we rescue are of mixed breeds. When we are out with our dogs and people ask, "What kind of dog is that?", my husband replies by saying, "It is a rare Prussian Snailhound. They are popular in Europe." Each Prussian Snailhound is unique and deserves a loving home! Please open your heart and your home to a rescue dog!

Our major focus is the rescue of stray dogs from the Ft. McDowell Indian Reservation. Since July 2009 we have worked with other groups to rescue over 300 dogs and puppies. These are amazingly sweet dogs that have had to live off of the land and brave extreme heat, cold, rain, drought, coyotes, rattlesnakes, hunger, traffic and people who try to harm them. They deserve to have a proper home. This started out as a mission to save about 30 dogs who hung out behind the casino, as the casino managers saw them as a nuisance and were threatening to poison or shoot the dogs. We ended up saving way more dogs as we became aware that the problem extended far beyond the casino. Some of the adult dogs are extremely fearful of humans at first and require extensive rehabilitation in order to learn how to trust and become a member of the family. Once they realize how good home life is, they will be your best friend for life!

In addition to the rescue and rehabilitation of dogs from the Ft. McDowell Indian Reservation, it is our goal to work closely with the tribe to educate people who live on the Reservation about spay/neuter and to facilitate a low cost spay/neuter program. So far in 2011, 148 pets have been spayed/neutered on the Reservation!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Millie, a Phoenix Pug dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Pug for sale in Phoenix, or seeking a Pug dog from a breeder in Phoenix.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Phoenix already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Phoenix breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Pug breeders who help with Pug rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Phoenix paves the way for another one to be saved.
