Handsome's Info...
| Breed: | Shar Pei/Labrador Retriever Mix | Color: | Tan/Yellow/Fawn | Age: | Puppy |
| Size: | Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg) | Sex: | Male |
Handsome was rescued from living in a drainage ditch by the woods in the 5th Ward. When found, he had mange and a secondary skin infection, but that has all cleared up now. He is most likely a Shar Pei/Lab blend and at approximately 5 months old (02/2013) he weighs around 15 lbs. He is working towards becoming potty trained, but has been neutered and is up-to-date on his puppy vaccinations.
Handsome is great with and loves children, especially the two year old girl in his foster home. He is a bit dominant with his sibling, but that could be different if he were adopted into a home with other pets that already have a social system in place. He is curious and playful with cats, but does not aim to cause them any harm.
In summary, Handsome is a typical puppy and would fit well into almost any family. Won't you give him a chance to charm your socks off? If you're interested in adopting Handsome, please fill out our adoption application at http://forgottendogs.org/adoption_application.html Thank you!
Rescue Group Info...
We rescue in a low income area of Houston called the 5th Ward. We founded Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project about a year ago to address what we saw as an obvious need to help the many stray dogs we were seeing in there. We set up feeding stations and network and pull as many as we can when a foster home or no-kill rescue group says they can take them in. One of our goals is education and we provide residents with vouchers that cover the complete cost of having their animals altered and vaccinated against rabies. In addition, we provide other vaccinations and worming in the field free of charge. Since November 2011 we have grown in size and have rescued over 250 dogs and a few cats from the area. We are launching a program called Habitat for Hounds through which we will donate doghouses and blankets to residents for their dogs that are kept outside. Our website is forgottendogs.org and we are a 501c3.
We do not have a regular adoption site at this time, but stay tuned to our facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/ForgottenDogs5) for our upcoming events!
Our adoption fee ranges from $100 to $150. We have an online application and a contract and all dogs/puppies are either spayed/neutered prior to adoption if old enough or arrangements are made to have them spayed/neutered afterwards.
