Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Houston
Gilmour is long, lean, a miracle machine with a Kim Hartz glamour shot to prove it. (Truth in advertising: he doesn’t come with jewels of any kind). If you are looking for a dog that personifies the more serious, heart tugging side of rescue, please read on.
We were notified that there was an IG running loose a little over a year ago and our search team went into gear. Determined to be free, the dog evaded capture for several weeks but fortunately centered his travels around a business where employees plied him with a steady supply of fast food that kept him coming back for more. At last a team member was able to corner him and grab hold. Gil screamed like a banshee – a moment the whole group still talks about. But even more memorable, the next second, when the collar was slipped over his head, he relaxed, started giving kisses and immediately became the sweet, lovable, typical IG he is today.
Gil had obviously been on the street a long time – his feet were raw, his back will never be what it should be and of course he was heart worm positive. He was successfully treated, but not before the disease had affected his heart. And all those tacos took their toll – he has kidney disease, too, requiring a special diet kibble. All of these conditions are stable however and he is finally pronounced “ready” for his chance at adoption.
Don’t even think about feeling sorry for him! A 16.5 lb blue biggie, he is about five years old, frisky, happy and has no idea he isn’t perfect. Along the way he has collected the hearts of all who know him. His fan club includes a young girl who sends him pictures and even had a birthday party to collect donations for his care. He loves all people and other animals, uses a doggie door as a good doggie should, and crates beautifully. He is a pretty good traveler, which brings up a little bonus he offers for a future owner. While in the car, Gil tends to “sing” in a high wavery voice that sounds similar enough to a police siren that you instinctively take your foot off the accelerator. Just think — the savings in avoided tickets will probably more than cover his adoption fee. What a deal! He is a great deal, and we always assure him that he is SPECIAL (needs).
