Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Augustus "Gus" is a young male German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mixed breed. Gus needs a foster home without cats!
He only weighs 49 lbs, so he is small for the breed mix. He has handsome good looks going for him! Gus is neutered, current on his vaccines and is heartworm negative. He does great on a leash, listens to any correction and is crate and house trained. He is learning how to be dog social with other canines, and learning that not every dog wants to attack him. He will now play ball with the pack and understand not every ball is his and he will step away if another dog gets to the ball first. He is over the top with cats in his foster home, so we think a home without cats is a must for him (and the cats!). He is not a hyper dog who will knock you over, but he would really enjoy a full time companion to share his days.
If you have balls, sticks or Frisbees to toss, or want to make trips to the lake, beach or pond, count him in! Do you need a running companion? He's a perfect fit. Couch Potato companion - great, but as of now he does not get on any furniture. Gus is a great car traveling companion.
Gus has learned to "settle" and that he can relax. He has not chewed anything in his foster home, except a leash while tethered learning his indoor boundaries (Purely due to the cats in the home.). He sleeps in his crate all night without a peep and has a happy genuine wag at all times. He does not jump up and is embracing the new words he is learning.
Are you interested in adopting Augustus or another JCAPL pet you have seen? You'll need to start by completing an adoption application, available online at our website: www.jcapl.org. There is no obligation to adopt by completing an application, however, we do recommend submitting an application as soon as you find an animal you are interested in. We review applications in the order they are received.
Completed applications can be sent via email to adopt@jcapl.org , faxed to 919-300-5524 or delivered in person by visiting us at one of our adoption events on Saturdays at Petsmart in Garner (White Oak Shopping Center).
We will contact you as soon as possible once we receive your application for Augustus.
