Here is what else Thor's foster family had to say:
Thor is a dog with a beautiful face and a personality to match. He wears a sweet, worried expression and tilts his head when you speak to him. He is the kind of dog that makes you wonder how and why some animals find themselves homeless and in a shelter. It’s a mystery as he is such an easy dog to have around. He is pretty much move-in-perfect!
Thor weighs in at 60 lbs. but he is not such a big dog in the house. He is low key, house trained, very obedient and loving. He wants nothing more than a hand to pet him or a lap to lay his head in. He yearns to please and wants to know that everything is okay and that he is being a good boy. He has not been in his crate for over 2 weeks.
Thor does have bursts of energy and likes to run around in the back yard, but is very calm in the house. He is great with other dogs and gentle with the cat. Thor does pull quite strongly on the leash, so I have resorted to a gentle leader which he doesn’t love but is compliant with. He is not destructive at all, will only play and chew on toys he has been given, and immediately responds to a firm “no” if he is doing something undesirable. He generally does not repeat the behaviour.
Thor is not a jumper nor does he counter surf. Thor knows to sit and give a paw – once he gives you one paw he sits on his haunches and gives you the second paw. Very cute! He also comes when he is called. He is so gentle in every way – taking treats, being manipulated while he is eating, and when I stick my hands in his food. He is non-reactive to most things except loud noise and, of all things, the dishwasher door being opened. He is a loving, kind and loyal soul.
Thor is crate trained but there is absolutely no reason for him to be in a crate. We have found him to be completely trustworthy. Thor is a low key, calm and sweet dog. He would be a great beginner dog as he has no significant issues to correct. He needs regular daily exercise and is a bit emotionally needy so needs a lot of reassurance that all is well. A quick pat on the head, a soft word and he is good to go.
He is a very sweet boy who is deserving of a relaxed home where his mild and gentle disposition will be appreciated. He may not be a candidate for very young children because of his occasional use of his paws and voice to get attention. Thor does love his kong, and his ball but his favourite thing is tug of war. Thor loves to chase the ball but he doesn’t retrieve it yet.
I would think it would be very important for him to be in a home where he will get the exercise he needs and won’t get bored. He would also benefit if he had another dog to play with as he will get some exercise that way. He loves to run outside, play with his friends and then chew on his toys.
If you think Thor would be a good addition to your family, please submit an application for consideration.
