Sally's Story...
Meet Sally. She went from being on the streets starving and with mange on New Years Eve to being adoptable today. She has gone from 43 lbs to about 53 and is still growing. She is about a year old and a really super dog. Sally is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative and ready to go. She is laid back and content to chill out when on her own and sociable with other dogs when with them. She is totally house trained having never had an accident in the house. Her passion is to look for squirrels and other critters in the back yard. She has a high prey drive and should not be around cats. She loves her walks too. She needs a secure 6 ft wooden fence because she will go over a 4 foot one. She would be a great companion for someone. She is obedient and quiet. If you are interested in adopting her please email her foster mom at fudgiesmom2@aol.com or fill out an application on www.forgottendogs.org. Be sure to specify that it is for Sally. Thanks.

Rescue Group Info...

About Our Rescue Group...
We rescue in a low income area of Houston called the 5th Ward. We founded Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project about a year ago to address what we saw as an obvious need to help the many stray dogs we were seeing in there. We set up feeding stations and network and pull as many as we can when a foster home or no-kill rescue group says they can take them in. One of our goals is education and we provide residents with vouchers that cover the complete cost of having their animals altered and vaccinated against rabies. In addition, we provide other vaccinations and worming in the field free of charge. Since November 2011 we have grown in size and have rescued over 250 dogs and a few cats from the area. We are launching a program called Habitat for Hounds through which we will donate doghouses and blankets to residents for their dogs that are kept outside. Our website is forgottendogs.org and we are a 501c3.
Come Meet Our Pets...

Our Adoption Process...
Our adoption fee ranges from $100 to $150. We have an online application and a contract and all dogs/puppies are either spayed/neutered prior to adoption if old enough or arrangements are made to have them spayed/neutered afterwards.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sally, a Porter Vizsla/Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Vizsla/Labrador Retriever for sale in Porter, or seeking a Vizsla/Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Porter.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Porter already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Porter breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Vizsla/Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Vizsla/Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Porter paves the way for another one to be saved.
