Joey's Info...
| Breed: | Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix | Color: | Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White) | Age: | Adult |
| Size: | Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg) | Sex: | Male | ID#: | 5397792 |
Joey is a special boy. He was found curled up in a cold barn, emaciated, missing patches of fur, and even missing the tip of his tail. He was just 49 pounds when he first saw the vet, where he was treated for worms and bladder infection. He also had a large pressure sore that had split open, which the vet treated and is now healed. At the time of his neuter he had gained weight to where he is over 80 pounds. But, Joey is a very sweet and gentle boy. He loves people and other dogs, and has shown curiousity regarding cats, but hasn't tried to hurt them. He's definitely part Treeing Walker Coonhound mixed with a larger breed. Joey has had a hard life until now and really deserves a loving home and family of his own. We dare you to NOT fall in love with this gentle boy!
Rescue Group Info...
I have loved animals since I was a child, and am especially fond of hounds. I have five rescue dogs of my own - all hounds, and three cats - all found as strays and were unable to find their owners. I am heartbroken daily as I see the number of beautiful hounds dumped at high-kill shelters, especially in the south. Many have been used for hunting and have had virtually NO vetting. Hounds make wonderful family pets and I want to save as many as we can. As Hearts and Hounds Rescue grows we will be taking other breeds, including cats.
In addition to saving dogs and cats from kill shelters and finding them homes, our long-term goals include increasing community involvement. We will be starting childrens' groups - Hearts and Hounds KIDS and Hearts and Hounds TEENS.

Adoption fee for most dogs is $150 (dogs are fully vetted, spayed/neutered, and will be microchipped). Adopters will be be required to sign an adoption contract, including a return to rescue policy should they not be able to keep the animal. We will check references, including the adopter's vet, and do a home check. We currently don't have fosters to handle cats, but when we do the adoption policies for cats will be basically the same as for dogs. Adoption fee for cats will be $100-150.
NW Indiana and into IL - as a new rescue, we are limiting adoptions to within 50 miles of area code 46375, but will expand our area as we build our volunteer force.
