LEELA's Story...
Lost and all alone, LEELA was terrified when Animal Control picked her up. Reactive and frightened, she snarled at the vet tech who picked her up. Because of that snarl, they gave her a "RED" warning label that meant LEELA would not be able to interact with the public, leaving no hope for adoption. Cowering in the corner of her cold, concrete kennel, they approached her with heavy gloves. Instead of the aggressive, biting dog they expected, LEELA leaned into glove and excepted affection. Leaning ever more into that glove, her rescuers came to realize that she wasn't really the RED tag dog they thought, and called out for foster groups to take LEELA or she would surely languish in their facility. ACR took this beautiful girl in, and in the experienced hands of our foster team, LEELA is flourishing! Still a bit unsure of what people will do to her, LEELA is increasingly more comfortable in new situations. She is only a year old and a small 5.5 lbs, but could stand to put on 1/2 pound to reach her ideal weight. LEELA's new family will have patience and the ability to keep exposing her to new situation and environments so that she becomes a well socialized beauty of a Chihuahua!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

LEELA, a AUSTIN Chihuahua dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua for sale in AUSTIN, or seeking a Chihuahua dog from a breeder in AUSTIN.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in AUSTIN already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a AUSTIN breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua breeders who help with Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in AUSTIN paves the way for another one to be saved.
