Zoey's Info...
| Species: | Chinchilla | Color: | Unknown | Age: | Adult |
| Sex: | Female | Hair: | Unknown |
Zoey is an amazingly social chinchilla! She was surrendered by a great family in New JErsey, who could not keep up with her veterinary care. Zoey came to us with an abscess on the side of her jaw, and some dental issues. She has had surgery for the abscess and had the 3 teeth pulled that were causing an issue. Like most dental problem chins there is a chance what this will correct with diet, but there is also a chance she will need dental work again in the future. This is routine for most exotic vets, and could take place 2-3 times a year or less. So far since in our care Zoey has had no more issues. Her teeth work fine, she eats a TON of food, and is a nice chubby size! She also wants to be out of her cage 24 hours a day, and running around wherever you are. This chinchilla was born to love, and if you adopt this little girl you will not regret it!!
Rescue Group Info...
Chin Friends Chinchilla Rescue was started because the exotic pet trade in our country is busier than ever before. With the availability of these animals, many people impulse-purchase them, not realizing the commitment they are making. It gets overwhelming for some, and others didn’t quite realize the financial commitment or time commitment. Some people just lose interest, or their lifestyle changes and the pet does not fit in anymore. There are not many resources for people with exotic pets, and we aim to provide that for chinchilla owners.
We also realize great pet owners are made- not born that way, and each one of our adopters will have access to help, suggestions and any support they may need in the future.
All of our chinchillas are in private foster home, so we do not allow the general public to see the chinchillas without first filling out the adoption application. Once an adopter is approved, we will be happy to set up a private meeting so you can meet any chinchillas you are interested in adopting.
Unlike some rescues, we do not require a home inspection. We do require that you are prepared to agree to some basic expectations, including providing a proper cage, veterinary care from an exotic specialist, air conditioning, and a clean, quiet, smoke-free environment.
There is an adoption application available for download on our web site, and there is a $100 adoption fee per chinchilla. After filling out an application, one of our volunteers will speak with you for more information.
Chin Friends Chinchilla Rescue is located in Suffolk
County, on Long Island, NY, and will serve most of
Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn, Bronx
and Queens. We have also had adopters from new Jersey and Connecticut, and are open to other areas as well.
