My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Star is an absolute beauty, both inside and out! She has a glossy black coat and a lovely patch of white on her chest and four white feet -quite a stunning dog. She is absolutely the most affectionate dog I have ever met. She loves to cuddle up next to you. Very friendly with everyone, her tail is always wagging. She is thriving on being surrounded by love and affection. She will bond very quickly with her person and make the most loyal and devoted companion. Star is a young adult and weighs 75 lbs.

Here is what else her foster family had to say:

Star has good house manners. She lies quietly on her bed when everyone is resting and she doesn't steal food from tables or the garbage. She is not a chewer. She has not attempted to pick up anything in her mouth. She understands "sit" and "no" and almost manages "stay" except she wants to be close to you all the time. It is evident that she is a very quick learner and very willing to please. Star does not exhibit any destructive behaviour when left alone. Star is very quiet in the house, she doesn't bark at all.

Star is fully house trained and has never had an accident. While she doesn't strenuously object to being put in a crate, she doesn't care for it and it is not needed as she can be trusted to be left alone in the house. She just finds a comfortable spot on the floor to lie down and stretch out. Star walks on a leash but because she is excited to go out and is a strong girl, she pulls a little at first. She is a very quick learner and with little encouragement she walks calmly and very obediently right next to your knee. Star has no desire to run away. She is happy to be with people. She doesn't bolt out of the door. When you tell her to wait, she does. Star likes to ride in the car. She would love to be up front in the passenger seat but when told to stay back, she does. She looks out of the window and is quiet.

Star has not been exposed to young children but the older children she met she seems to like very much. Other than her size, we don't think there would be an issue with people of any age. She is friendly with everyone. I have noticed that when a stranger comes to the door she adopts a protective stance. No growling but she looks suspiciously at them and when you say" It's OK Star, this is a friend, you can say hello" then she relaxes and approaches for a pet and a greeting. On leash free walks she is perfectly happy to meet people.

Star would be fine an an only dog in the home or with another friendly dog. She does like to play with other dogs and is always up for a game of chase. She has not been exposed to cats but it doesn't appear that she would have any issues as she is so easy going with everyone and everything.

Star is not shy with anyone and is just a happy-go-lucky kind of dog. She shows no fear of loud noises and she is not easily startled. Star loves her walks! She is great off leash in a forest. She will explore but never goes too far away from you. She comes back when you crouch down and call for her and is thrilled to receive praise for listening and coming back. She also likes to chew on a rawhide bone and she loves her treats. She has moderate energy. After a good hour's walk she will pass out on her dog bed for a lengthy sleep.

Star would be best suited to a family who would show her physical affection and who would take her out for at least two 30 minute walks each day. She would love be in a home with a yard to explore and run around in. The only limitations for Star would be her size but she is very calm and gentle however she is still a strong dog. She has proven to be a very quick learner and when asked to "heel" or "wait" is very responsive. I believe she will be easily trained.

As mentioned previously she would be best as an only dog or as a second dog only if the other dog is playful, even tempered and laid back. Star is the kind of dog that will bond extremely strongly with her new owner and because of that she deserves an owner who is willing to commit to her for the rest of her life and is willing to make her part of the family. Star can be entirely trusted to behave herself in the house with no issues and should not be crated.

If you think Star would be a wonderful addition to your family, please submit an application for consideration.
