My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sammy has just entered our program. He found himself homeless after his family surrendered him to the shelter in Winfield, KS because their teenage son was teasing him relentlessly and the parents could not stop it. For Sammy's sake, they gave him to the shelter in hopes he could find a better life. He is now with us in RRMPM and is safe from ever being teased again.
Sammy is a big robust boy as he is a mix of Min Pin (assume a larger one) and a Standard Smooth coated Dachshund. He is a very handsome fella having the body type of the min pin with the dachshund look about his face. Sammy has only been with us a short time so we are still learning about his personality, but he is overall well behaved and good with other dogs and people. I would not recommend placing him in a home with a rowdy, irough and tumble, busy family due to his history. He is a big boy of 28 lbs and stands knee high, so he would be a great walking, or jogging partner and at only 4 yrs old, he has lots of life and stamina left! Sammy is able to climb a 5 ft chain link fence, so perhaps a privacy fence would be best also for this sweet boy.
Update from SAMMY'S Foster DAD: Sammy is a very affectionate adventurous and playful guy. He is full of energy and loves attention and will be your shadow with his stub of a tail going 90 mph constantly or being a showoff as he is walking around on his hind legs. Sammy loves other dogs and is very quick to play bow and get the doggie games going. He loves to jump and hop onto things, he can leap a 3’ baby gate and can get out of a 4’ chain link fence (but he usually hops right back in and repeats a few times). He would be a great dog to train for dog agility, he would be amazing and it would be fantastic (and fitting) exercise for him.

Sammy is a 4 year old min-pin mix, he is a neutered male and UTD. Sammy responds quickly to his name, most commands and corrections (but he’s not a big fan of sitting), he quickly learned to go to his kennel, and appears to be house trained.
