My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rose is a lovely, gentle dog. She rarely barks and is great with small children. Rose, being a hound, is lead by her nose and thoroughly uses it at the dog park. She enjoys the company of other dogs and is good with cats. She does not do well with caged animals. She really didn't know what toys were for but as she opens up to us she is learning how much fun there is to be had. Rose is approximately 2 years old and currently weighs 53 lbs.

Rose is very healthy although it is obvious that she is recovering from recently having had a litter of pups. When Rose first got here she did counter surf but we worked on it and now she does not. She does not steal food but does approach to a smell that interests her. She may be persistent but we are more persistent with her and eventually she will walk away. She is attentive and does want to please.

Rose is house trained. She will go to the back door when she needs to go out. We are not using a crate. We do not know how she will react being crated. We have not had any problems leaving her home alone and not crated. She loves lying on blankets so a dog bed would be a great idea for her. She does very well on a leash. She can get focus on a scent but when redirected she is fine. When we are getting ready to go out she comes to the front door but I have found that if you do not make eye contact with her she will usually stay back. She is hesitant on getting in and out of the car. She settles in nicely when you start driving. She does love her trips to the dog park.

She is very social and friendly with all people. She is gentle with children. We have gotten many compliments about her sociability. When she first got here she had a fear of going down stairs but we conquered that. She is very quiet in the home and rarely barks.

Rose would do very well as part of a family. She is wonderful with children of all ages and is a very gentle, sweet natured girl. She would love to have a backyard to keep the squirrels out of and older children that would like to toss a ball around would be good for her. She would do well with another friendly dog in the home for company and/or regular trips to the dog park to play with other dogs. She has her moments of playfulness in the home but they are few. Usually if she starts getting into things she is bored and needs to go for a walk but is a pretty low energy dog. She loves affection and attention and lots of petting.

If you think Rose would be a good choice for your family, please submit an application for consideration.
