Here is what his foster family had to say:
Shelton is a gentle, goofy, affectionate beast and steals the hearts of everyone he meets. He loves to be showered with love and attention and somehow manages to steal the spot light where ever he goes. He will sit very still and let you pet him for hours. He is a very handsome boy with a beautiful reddish blonde (I would call him strawberry blonde) coat. He loves to be brushed, and sat with his head on my shoulder for 45 minutes while I brushed away his fluffy under coat. He was shedding quite profusely upon his arrival at our house, but now that he has had a bath and some grooming, his shedding is minimal.
He is currently residing in a multi-pet home without difficulty. We have two dogs and 4 cats which Shelton gets along famously with. We have had Shelton at the dog park several times and he gets along with all the dogs there. He especially likes those that are prepared to run and play with him. He also enjoys making new people friends, approaching anyone that will give him a pat on the head and soaking up every ounce of affection that he can. He does pretty well on his leash and is learning to respond to his correction when necessary, but for the most part he is not difficult to walk. Shelton will approach you if you have food and will get very close in hopes that you will share, but he understands “no” very well and will back off when you say no to him...although, you may have to say it twice.
Shelton needs a bone and other toys that he can chew on. He really likes it when I stuff his Kong (the original) with peanut butter and kibble and then freeze it. This keeps him very busy. He also enjoys chewing rawhide bones and some“tendons” that I picked up at the pet store. Shelton has successfully mastered the sit command. We are now working on shake a paw which I am confident he will have the hang of very shortly. He has not learned to “come” but when called (I call him Shelly) he will come around. He does not have a specific signal that we have defined as yet to let us know that he needs to go out but he generally follows the rest of the gang outside whenever we take them out and appears to be fully house trained. He is also crate trained and would need to be crated when you are out of the house until he can be fully trusted. He is moderately active. He needs at least 45-60 minutes of exercise a day to get him to settle at the end of the night.
What are Shelton's favourite things to do?
· Dog Park
· Chewing his bone and other various items
· Play time shenanigans with his foster parent’s
· Chewing above mentioned foster parent’s hair (namely, MINE!)
· Licking the cat
· Playing quietly with his toys…he likes to toss them around
· Eating of course! Loves his food, dog treats, rawhide
· Drinking his water and then slobbering it all over the floor and anything else he can get close enough to share with
· Giving sloppy, wet kisses!
Sweet, loveable, snuggly Shelton has been an awesome house guest. If you are looking for a mid-sized cuddly critter, he is your guy. He would love nothing more than a family of his very own to spoil. He would like to have a home with a big yard to run around in so he can burn off some of that puppy energy outside. I believe that he would do well in just about any family setting, but would love to have another playful critter friend to be goofy and silly with.
If you think Shelton would be a good choice for your family, please submit an application for consideration.
