Nieve's Story...
I’m Nieve and that means “snow” but I’m really warm and cuddly! I’m gentle, friendly and affectionate, and people say I’m very sweet. I like being with people, having lots of snuggle time and attention, and I also like to play. I like discovering new toys, especially dangly things and stuffed mice! I also enjoy the company of other cats, and like playing with them.

I was born in the summer of 2012 and lived a happy life in a loving home in Washington, DC. But in March a fire broke out on the second floor of our building! We heard sirens, and fire engines surrounded us, and soon water was coming in everywhere! Then when it was finally quiet, the electricity was cut off and it was wet and dark. That’s when my friend Anna reached into my hiding place and put me in a carrier. My friends and I were all wet, but at least we weren’t exposed to the smoke. But my family lost our home, and I’ve been at the vet ever since then.

My family was a big one, with three kids and other cats, dogs and even a couple of turtles! Everyone is fine and relocated, thank goodness! But now we cats need new homes, and my old friends are so happy to know Four Paws will find me a wonderful new family. I hope someone will give me lots of new toys and spend lots of time with me, because I have LOTS of love to offer!

I’m healed from my spay surgery, and the vet gave me my vaccinations and I tested negative for FeLV and FIV. Now I just need a new home where people will love me forever.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Nieve, a Merrifield Domestic Shorthair kitten was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Merrifield, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair kitten from a breeder in Merrifield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Merrifield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Merrifield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Merrifield paves the way for another one to be saved.
