Starboard's Story...
Starboard (11 months old) came to us last spring with a litter of kittens abandoned on a sail boat in a Baltimore harbor. The momma cat ran off the boat when the owner came on board and she never returned. Luckily, Tails High had a nursing mom to take him and his siblings under her wing. Starboard loves to be snuggled and will rub his head on your chin. He can be shy at first and may take a few weeks to get used to a new place or person, but he's getting much better! Since he has spent most of his life up to this point on a small sailboat, this reserved cat may be a good match for a small apt or studio.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Starboard, a Alexandria Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Alexandria, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Alexandria.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Alexandria already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Alexandria breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Alexandria paves the way for another one to be saved.
