Otis's Story...
New Bio 03/20/13: My name is Otis and I was rescued from a puppy mill. My ideal home would be one in which my humans did not work full time and perhaps there would be another small dog or two to play with because I need "company".
Being rescued from a puppy mill, I arrived without a name, without a birthday and had no idea what life outside of a crate and breeding would be like. I weighed 3lbs 9oz, had an ulcerated left eye, bad teeth, and needed neutering. I had surgery and lost my left eye, a number of teeth and was neutered. Despite all that, I LOVE my new life. My age is estimated around 6-7 years old and I am exploring everything with the enthusiasm of a puppy and the maturity of an adult. I am very smart, very handsome and very loving. I travel well in the car, sleep through the night, do not bark at the door, do not beg, do not jump, do not chew on things and bad weather does not bother me (I even go outside to potty in the rain and cold). My favorite activity is to lie in my human’s lap while they watch tv, read books or visit with others. Toys are the greatest fun and I love to chase after them and give them a good shake. My biggest challenge is separation anxiety. My current humans work full time which means I am left alone 9-10 hours, 5 days a week. While there are times I manage this separation just fine, but then there are other times I don’t. My trainer believes I “panic”. I have recently started some medication for the anxiety and hope this will help me stay calm. I usually do not have this issue when my humans are home, even when they leave to run errands and spend an evening away. My trainer said I may do better if I had a companion to stay with me.
